Calaveras County is a four-season travel destination nestled in the central Sierra of California between Yosemite National Park and Lake Tahoe. In the lower Gold Country regions, oak covered foothills are abundantly sprinkled with colorful wildflowers in spring, and quaint Gold Rush towns, while the High Sierra region boasts the largest living things on earth, Giant Sequoia trees and spectacular mountain sports recreation.

But it’s not just a beautiful location, it’s also a haven for the arts and live entertainment, spectacular attractions, a full year of events to entertain and inspire, and lots of interesting history from the wild days of the Gold Rush. As part of the Sierra Foothills wine region, our wineries win prestigious awards every year and specialize in rich, full bodied reds, but they never take themselves too seriously… despite our excellent wine and culinary culture, we’re a snob-free zone.

Check out our current Calaveras Blog articles, suggested travel itineraries and interactive map which will help you find things to see and do in every corner of Calaveras. Need more help? Due to its historic nature as one of the original areas settled by gold mining hopefuls in California’s Gold Rush of 1849, each town has its quaint, historic center with charming buildings featuring hardy Victorian architecture, old fashioned charm and friendly locals.
