[close]Miss Calaveras Scholarship Pageant-Frogtown-209-736-256114 May, 2008 8:00 p.m. Contestants entering the Miss Calaveras Program must be between the ages of 17 and 23 and a resident of Calaveras County. Contestants compete in 4 areas of competition, interview, health and fitness, talent and evening gown. Miss Calaveras will receive $1000, First Princess will receive $600 and 2nd Princess will receive $400. There are 5 other additional awards given, Miss Community Service, Most Talented, Most Photogenic, Miss Congeniality and the Directors Award. Contestants are encouraged to obtain sponsors to cover their pageant expenses. Applications are available at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds, Bret Harte High School and Calaveras High School. Completed applications are due on March 30,2008. The event is sponsored by the Angels Murphys Rotary Club and the special awards are sponsored by Angels Car Wash.

[close]Bayou Boys Band Perfomance, Wilseyville 209-293-797918 May, 2008 Get ready for some foot-stompin', knee slappin' two-steppin' Cajun music when the Bayou Boys band performs in Wilseyville on Sunday afternoon May 18. The fun outdoor event, which also includes a BBQ (separate cost), is open to the public amid the tall pines at Camp Lodestar.
The gates of Camp Lodestar, located at 6135 Blue Mountain Rd., will open at 3:00, and the music which will transport you to the swamps of the Louisiana bayou will start at 4:00 pm. Admission is $12 per adult; children are free if accompanied by a paying parent. If you canât handle wooden bench seating, bring your own folding chairs. Available for a reasonable price will be BBQ chicken, tri-tip, a vegetarian plate, hotdogs, sausages, sodas and more. Sorry, no outside food or beverages will be allowed.
The featured band will be The Bayou Boys who blend Zydeco, New Orleans Rhythm and Blues, and Cajun into their performances and the result is hot and spicy.

Highway 4 will be closed at 9:30 AM so make sure to get there early for the best viewing. The Parade Route will begin at the lower end of the Arnold Byway just east of town and end at Cedar Center.
The Parade Theme is 'Remembering the Past' and the Grand Marshal is Betty Ann Prescott. Betty has a long list of community activities which we will be featuring at a later date.
