It’s Interactive Month at the CVB – Welcome to the Map App!

Calaveras County interactive map

How many times has a guest asked you for advice on what to do while they’re in the area?  Where to eat?  Which wineries they should check out?  We’ve just made it easier  – and a lot more fun –  for you to be the hero concierge with the new Interactive Map  feature on the CVB website.

It has been a long time in the making and this month we are pleased to announce the launch of our new “Map App”  which allows anyone to build their own itineraries by filtering the type of activity they’re interested in  – such as wineries, restaurants, attractions, lodging, etc.

The map is set to show all the different types of activities, each with its own icon, but you can easily choose only the things you are looking for.  It also lets you look specifically at the different regions of the county and has a separate category for trails in case you’re looking for quick access to the outdoors.

Here’s Where You Can Help – And Make it Easy for Your Guests

The process of creating the map involved manually submitting data on every CVB member’s business, complete with social media and review site links. That information along with all the best photos we could find of each business was then plugged into the application.   We would love it if you took a moment to check out your listing and make sure we got it right.

One thing to look at is what categories your business should be found under. Often times one business will have more than one. For example, a winery that also has a tasting room and holds special events should be found in the “Winery,” “Vineyard,” “Tasting Room,” and “Arts & Entertainment” under “Attractions” categories.   You want to make sure you are listed everywhere that’s appropriate so people have the greatest likelihood of finding you.   Be sure to email us and let us know if changes need to be made.

The other great thing about this map is that it’s an ever-evolving organism. Anyone can create their own itineraries and share them right on the application. With the “Map App” it’s easy!

All you need to do is find the button on the lower left of the map, create a username and password, and once your itinerary is built, hit the share button. This is a great way to create a weekend plan that might include wine tasting on Saturday with dining out on Saturday night, outdoor fun on Sunday with a late afternoon of shopping.

Build a variety of plans, complete with automatically generated driving directions between different items, print them out and have them ready when people ask. And by sharing them on the site, you’ll help us offer a much more robust experience here in Calaveras County.
