Party with Mark Twain at Gold Rush Day 2013

Posted : August 20, 2013

This event has been rescheduled to October 19th

Historic Angels Camp

Come Celebrate Angels Camp’s 165th Birthday…

On the Saturday of Labor Day Weekend Angels Camp will be shutting down Hwy 49 in its historic downtown for the party of the year, Gold Rush Day.  And what makes this year’s festivities extra special is the fact that this little gold mining town is celebrating its 165th birthday.  So, take your family back in time and come party with Mark Twain (yes, “he” really will be wandering around – photo opp!).

But besides a visit from Mark Twain (and maybe even “Henry Angel” whose namesake Angels Brothers Trading Post helped give the mining town its start back in 1848) Gold Rush Day will feature everything from a gold miner’s encampment in Utica Park and old western gun fight shows to a street faire, the unveiling of the plaque for this year’s Frog Jump winner and even a giant, ore-cart shaped birthday cake in honor of the city’s 165th birthday.

Of course, Gold Rush Day wouldn’t be complete without good food, great beer and local wine and a ton of lively musical performances on several stages throughout historic downtown.  Don’t miss the Sierra Mountain Band whose cowboy songs and bluegrass jams are sure to get the crowd dancing and local favorite, Plan B.  Sounds like a ton of fun. If you’ve always wanted to go back in time to the gold rush era for a day, this is your chance.
