We are excited to launch a new locally-sourced blog program here at the CVB as recommended by the DMAWest Tech Summit, which stresses that for destination marketing organizations, online “Content is King.” And so, we want to broaden and deepen our web content by tapping into the expertise of the aspiring writers out there, adding to the articles we currently publish.
We are seeking new, enthusiastic voices on topics of interest to the visiting public. Whether you’re an expert on Calaveras history, geology, recreation or food we want to hear your stories. This program is especially exciting to us, because we’re hoping to get contributions on areas that generally see less coverage than the biggest attractions and most popular tourism regions. We’d love to be promoting the outlying areas of Calaveras County more – and local knowledge will help us do that.
Really, the sky is the limit (don’t let this list limit your creativity), and here are some blogging ideas that we’d love to see submitted:
- Calaveras nature – stargazing, birding, wildflowers, leaf peppers, wildlife
- Recreation with children (a mommy blog)
- Multi-generational recreation
- Romantic getaways
- Regular food and/or wine blog
- Calaveras history
- Recommended scenic drives (especially in outlying areas of the county)
- Agriculture – wine grapes, cattle, olives, farm-to-table, organic, sustainable, farm tours
- Lesser known trail systems
- Hauntings/spooky places
- Inspiring vistas/views
- Favorite places to photograph or paint/sketch
If we publish your piece, we’ll pay you $50 and we’ll get eyeballs on your article. We’ll also promote it on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest and in our visitor newsletters. We will also link back to your regular blog site if you have one.
Calaveras Blog Submission Guidelines
Editorial should be between 500 and 1000 words in length and focus on your area of interest/expertise. First-person perspective is preferred. Please include photography if possible. Your photographs should be horizontally oriented and measure 800 pixels wide by 500 pixels tall maximum. Do not submit generic imagery sourced from the internet. Any identifiable people in your photo(s) will need to sign a photography release form, examples of which can be found here: http://photography.lovetoknow.com/Photography_Release_Forms.
If writing an article seems like about as much fun as having teeth pulled – Do a video blog! Send us a short 1-3 minute video on your area of expertise. Check our article for helpful tips on getting good video with your smartphone or camera.
How to Submit Your Blog or Vlog
Send your article via email to our executive director, Lisa Boulton, firstname.lastname@example.org. Your submission will then be edited by CVB staff and may also be held for publication if it is something that is seasonally relevant. Vlogs should be uploaded to Youtube and the link emailed to Lisa.
Only published blog/vlog submissions will be paid.
If we love your work, we will ask you to be a regular contributor. At that time, we will need a short bio and a head shot.
