2018 Calaveras Visitors Bureau Board Retreat

This year’s board retreat focused on economic development and tourism sustainability. The first presentation was a projected annual report for the 2017-18 fiscal year.

The second presentation was on DMO Evolution from Destination Marketing Organization to Destination Management Organization, with an emphasis on economic development and tourism sustainability:

The third presentation, given by Michelle Stephens, Economic Development Manager for CALED, entitled Tourism is Economic Development gave an overview of the economic importance of tourism to communities, and the very inspirational work done in Mono County.

The fourth presentation was on tourism sustainability on the CVB’s efforts in three areas: environmental, infrastructure advocacy and economic.

2016 Leadership Calaveras

The Calaveras County Chamber of Commerce offers a one-day-a month, ten month course giving an overview on the governance, industry, media, history & diversity, law enforcement, health and human services, natural resources, education and agriculture in Calaveras. Each year the CVB presents on the tourism industry and our role in maintaining a healthy growth in the industry.

2015 State Fair Volunteer Presentation

Each year, we hold a volunteer reception to thank our dedicated volunteers for staffing the Calaveras exhibit at the California State Fair. During this reception, we give a presentation to explain the layout, function and features of the new exhibit.


2015 Board of Supervisors Presentation

This year’s presentation to the Board of Supervisors is embedded directly in this page. The Calaveras Visitors Bureau is the non-profit destination marketing organization for Calaveras County. We receive funding from TOT (hotel tax) from both the City of Angels Camp and the County of Calaveras. As a recipient of public funds, we like to give elected officials an accounting of what we have achieved each year with our funding.

On this occasion, the CVB partnered with the CWA, Cave and Mine Adventures and the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee. We took many great giveaways, including Calaveras wines, Twisted Oak rubber chickens, chocolates from petroglyphe gallery, a free overnight certificate to the Hotel Leger and free cave tours. The California State Fair includes a County Exhibits section each year and the Calaveras Visitors Bureau produces an exhibit booth as part of our marketing plan. It takes many dedicated volunteers to staff the booth and we like to give a volunteer luncheon before the fair starts to acquaint our valued volunteers with the specifics on the new booth design and function each year.

We took a 15 minute presentation and managed to get it extended to two hours by bringing in California bullfrogs to accompany the talk about the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee, after which we catered lunch with a 3-course menu developed and prepared on site by Lunch Lady Catering, and paired each course with Calaveras wines.
