Meet at the Warming Hut a little before 11:30 am or 1 pm to enjoy a walk around the North Grove lead by one of the Park’s talented docents. This gentle hike lasts from 1½ to 2 hours. The tour guide will lead you on an exploration of the North Grove and provide insight you might not get on your own. Bring water. Please call 209-795-3840 for current weather and trail conditions.
During the winter season (when there is snow) the hikes become a snowshoe hike. Guided snow-shoe walks begin every Saturday at 1 p.m. after the Warming Hut opens, snow conditions permitting. Snow shoes are provided free to the first 30 people who show up prior to the 1 p.m. starting time. Snow shoes are available for adults and children, or you can bring your own. It’s a good idea to check in by around 12:30 p.m. to make sure there are adequate snow shoes available. If you use the park’s snow shoes you must stay with the guide.
If no snow, there is still a guided walk on Saturdays at 1 pm.
Experience on snowshoes is not required, and the group stays together and hikes at an easy pace. Children are welcome when accompanied by an adult. The snow-shoe walks often follow the North Grove Trail, and typically take about 90 minutes. On the walk, you’ll learn about how nature’s critters and plants adapt to winter, and have opportunities for picture taking.
Hike is free, entry fee into park applies. Visit bigtrees.org/ for more information.
