Frogs For All Seasons Photo Contest- Kiss a Frog, Win Great Prizes!

Calaveras County has long been associated with frogs due to Mark Twain’s The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County which launched his literary career in 1864. Calaveras County has been hopping ever since!

As a tribute to Mark Twain, Calaveras County hosts the Jumping Frog Jubilee during its annual county fair held the third weekend in May. Dating back to 1928, the Jubilee takes place over a four-day weekend (Thursday – Sunday) and is one of California’s longest continually running fairs. It is during these festivities where interested frog enthusiasts of any age can compete in the frog jump event. For more information about how Mark Twain found his voice in Calaveras County, please visit “88 Days Shines a Light on Mark Twain in the Motherlode. Go to Calaveras County Fair and the Jumping Frog Jubilee for the history of the fair and how to become a frog jockey at the frog jumping contest.
