Murphys Festivals & Events: President’s Wine Weekend
Technically, President’s Wine Weekend takes place throughout Calaveras at multiple wine-tasting rooms. However, since most of our tasting rooms are located in historic downtown Murphys, we’ve co-opted it for the sake of this article. Why? Because you don’t want to miss this fun weekend-long event. Simply purchase a $40 commemorative wine glass at any participating location and enjoy a free, limited-tasting flight at all participating wineries. It’s Calaveras winetastic!
Murphys Festivals & Events: Irish Day
Murphys Irish Day is a fun, festive event celebrating the Irish heritage of Murphys and takes place over St. Patrick’s Day weekend every year. The entire town, turns out and parties in green with a parade, singing, dancing and great food. Thousands of visitors flock to the event to enjoy bagpipers, cornbeef and cabbage, green beer and all of the traditional elements of a classic St. Paddy’s day celebration.
Murphys Festivals & Events: Ironstone Vineyard’s July 4th Celebration
Calaveras’ premier winery, Ironstone, holds a spectacular Independence Day celebration in its scenic grounds. According to ABCNews.com in a 2012 report, Ironstone Vineyards’ annual Fourth of July celebration and fireworks is one of the best small-town Independence Day events in the nation. We can’t say we disagree 🙂
Murphys Festivals & Events: Ironstone Amphitheatre’s Summer Concert Series
The music scene here in Calaveras has a long and illustrious history, with multiple summer concert series around the county. By far, the largest of these is the Ironstone Amphitheatre Summer Concert Series, attracting national headliners to perform, and thousands of music-lovers to enjoy. Set in their beautifully manicured grounds, the outdoor amphitheatre is a magical place to enjoy classic rock and country stars and up-and-comers.
Murphys Festivals & Events: Calaveras Grape Stomp & Street Faire
A celebration of Calaveras wine, the Calaveras Grape Stomp & Street Faire features multiple teams competing in a fun grape stomping contest in front of thousands of spectators, lots of wine tasting and plenty of great snacks and gourmet food. This Murphys event has been drawing participants and spectators for over a decade. Teams, many coming back year after year, dress up in humorous, clever and colorful costumes and give themselves appropriate (or, let’s face it, inappropriate) names.
Murphys Festivals & Events: Day of the Dead
Fast becoming one of Calaveras County’s most popular events, Murphys Day of the Dead is modeled on the Mexican festival: Dia de Los Muertos, celebating the lives of those we’ve loved and lost. Many traditional elements are included, making for a magical festival full of inspiration, art, music, dance and treats.
Murphys Festivals & Events: Holiday Open House
Murphys Holiday Open House is an old fashioned holiday celebration, incorporating the charm of historic downtown with street music performers, carolers, a holiday parade and plenty of hot chocolate, cider and even roasted chestnuts. With colorful lights decorating the downtown, this is Murphys at its most charming, with shops staying open late for gift purchases and photo ops with Santa.
