The winter season here offers endless snow play adventures including snowshoeing, skiing and snowboarding, sledding, and snowmobiling. There’s even access to winter wilderness camping if you’re feeling adventurous. Be sure to look up during evening walks in crisp mountain snow to enjoy the views of the universe.

Spring features rainy days bringing the glorious scent of damp forests, spectacular spring wildflower displays and the songs of warm-weather birds on your hiking and biking adventures. The higher elevations may still be snowy, so there’s still time to get your snowplay in, with warmer temperatures.This is also the only time of year when whitewater rafting is available on the North Fork of the Stanislaus with OARS.

Summer days are warm to hot even at the highest elevations, making playing on our lakes, by our rivers (be careful not to enter rivers, which may be swifter than they appear), creeks and streams cool from snowmelt, your perfect choices. Evenings and nights are warm, making camping and picnicking especially enjoyable

Fall brings glorious autumn colors thanks to groves of deciduous black oak trees, dogwoods and aspens for your hiking and biking adventures. The air is cool and crisp and you will hear the geese beginning to migrate south for the winter. This is a great time of year for disc golf – something Calaveras has developed throughout the county at multiple parks. There’s traditional golf here too at two beautiful, higher elevation golf courses: Murphys 9 at Forest Meadows and Sequoia Woods Country Club.
