Each year, the Calaveras Visitors Bureau (CVB) recognizes an outstanding business that has gone above and beyond to attract visitors to Calaveras through new or unique ideas, products or services. In 2013 we expanded this program to recognize more businesses and to encourage more innovation by honoring a business in each of six categories:
• Event • Attraction • Lodging • Restaurant • Retail • Recreation
The CVB and CVB member businesses nominate businesses for the awards and vote on the nominees. This means the Innovators in Tourism for Calaveras County are now decided by their peers. The nominee that receives the most votes overall becomes our overall winner for the year. Winners are announced at the CVB Annual Dinner.
For 2013 the top honor went to Arnold Black Bear Inn (which also won in the Lodging category) for their development as a premiere wedding destination and their new Top Chef Challenge event packages.
Additional 2013 winners in other categories were:
EVENT – Twisted Oak Winery, for bringing a new venue to Calaveras’ evening entertainment scene with its Summer Concert Series.
ATTRACTION – Calaveras Big Trees State Park, for their interpretive programs, warming hut and new visitor center.
RETAIL – Stories in Stones, for their unique retail experience and educational outreach.
RECREATION – Arnold Rim Trail Association, for the planning and development of the Arnold Rim Trail and map.
