Big Trees Family Day is designed to bring the most fun, family-friendly activities to Calaveras Big Trees state Park, with an emphasis on the natural environment and celebrating this beautiful place. The small fee for wagon rides helps to fund the non-profit Calaveras Big Trees Association which supports the park’s activities and provides volunteers and docents.
Learn about the forest while enjoying a whole day of fun activities. The event includes a demonstration of live birds of prey and reptiles, opportunities to Meet a Ranger and see the real Smokey Bear, make nature-themed crafts, view the Arts of Bear Valley art show, play games, watch fly fishing demonstrations, enjoy live music and take horse-drawn wagon rides. Other activities usually include storytelling, Miwok Indian cultural demonstrations and a Wild Things show that includes animals that live in and around the park.
Food and drinks are available for purchase including on-site BBQ, home-baked goods, ice cream and popcorn.
Another very popular event at Calaveras Big Trees State Park, perfect for families, is Winter Wonderland.
