The Bear Valley Freeheel Race Series is three separate ski mountaineering events which tackle a different course for each race, organized by Mountain Adventure Seminars. Come and treat yourself to an alpine adventure designed for randonee, telemark and splitboard enthusiasts looking for a challenge over resort and backcountry terrain.
The course covers almost 7 miles with 3,000 feet of climbing. Along the way you can expect demanding climbs, exhilarating descents, and a spicy but short boot pack section to one of Bear Valleys most scenic locations. Seasoned backcountry travelers and novice racers will find this all-terrain race both inspiring and challenging of your freeheeling skills.
This event is intended to challenge and inspire both skiers and splitboarders.
About the Freeheel Race Series
Each Bear Valley Freeheel Race follows a traditional ski mountaineering format with “… a timed event that follows an established trail through challenging winter alpine terrain while passing through a series of checkpoints. Racers climb and descend under their own power using backcountry skiing equipment and techniques” (USSMA). Prizes will be awarded for each race, including accumulative rewards for those participating in all three races.
