Hotel Leger, Mokelumne Hill, Calaveras County

Housing the county’s first courthouse, the Hotel Léger is much more than a hotel. With its rich Calaveras history, reported hauntings and historic cellars and saloon open to the public, the Hotel Léger is not to be missed on your visit to this charming Gold Rush town.

The hauntings in Hotel Léger are so frequent that ghost hunting kits are on offer at the front desk for those willing to spook themselves. The saloon is beautifully preserved, picturesque and historic, and the the restaurant serves up delicious grub at very reasonable prices (see their Facebook page for menus). If you’re looking for innovative cuisine and tasty cocktails, this is your spot.

Weddings at Hotel Leger | Jerad Hill PhotographySleepy little Mokelumne Hill provides a break from the hustle and bustle of modern life, and makes an ideal base for your Calaveras weekend getaway. Just half an hour from big festivals, wine tasting and entertainment in Murphys, Angels Camp and Jackson the Hotel Léger offers a charming respite from crowds and noise. Enjoy a freshly prepared cocktail by the pool, or sit on your balcony for views of charming downtown.

That’s not to say the Hotel Léger doesn’t host its share of events. Comedy nights, a writer’s retreat, Spaghetti Western Wednesdays, the Backyard Blues & BBQ summer concert series and Tardy Mardi Gras are included in their annual events to entertain you.
