As of March 12th 2020, the California Office of Emergency Services announced that in order to protect public health and slow the rate of transmission of Coronavirus (COVID-19), non-essential gatherings and events statewide throughout California should be postponed or canceled through at least March 31st 2020, and possibly beyond. Please find the full policy here for more information.
The health and safety of our county’s residents and visitors is the Calaveras Visitors Bureau’s highest priority.
If you have questions about specific event postponement details, please contact event organizers directly for updates.

Murphys Irish Day is the biggest family-friendly Celtic celebration in California’s Sierra foothills. If you like big festive street parties, green beer, Irish music, wine and everything else that comes along with a perfect Irish celebration, then you won’t want to miss Murphys Irish Day this year.
UPDATE: MURPHYS IRISH DAY 2020 has been cancelled as of 3/11/2020 and will return to normal operating schedule on the 3rd Satuday in March 2021. However, all businesses are still open for their regularly scheduled hours, and a modified itinerary of activities for the day can be found on the Visit Murphys website here.See excerpt of activities below:
EXCERPT FROM Visit Murphys website: Event organizer, Murphys Business Association, is planning to run a shuttle to Ironstone Vineyards on the 21st as they have many activities planned for Saturday. We will also be extending the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets through the month of March. The Murphys Business Association will have an information booth on the street by the Native Sons Hall selling raffle tickets and providing information on Saturday the 21st. There will still be limited entertainment taking place in town but there will be no road closure, parade or vendors on the street.

What’s New for 2020: Murphys Irish Day is Going Green!
Event organizer, Murphys Business Association is proud to announce a new eco-friendly policy of working to minimize single-use plastics for the 2020 event. Many sales of beer and wine this year will be offered in paper cups rather than plastic, with stainless steel souvenir containers also available for purchase.
Murphys Irish Day – What to Expect
8:00 am to 10:00 am
For true devotees of Murphys Irish Day, the event starts with a hearty community pancake breakfast at the First Congregational Church on Algiers Street between 8:00 am and 10:00 am, with festivities officially beginning on Main Street at 10 am.
Arriving early? Keep your lucky ear tipped for a swirl of bagpipes at 11:00 am, announcing the start of the Main Street parade!
Featuring St. Patrick’s Day favorites: the world’s tallest leprechaun, lrish themed floats by local businesses and community organizations, classic cars, horses, marching bands, and the finest children in the land, this parade is one jubilant small-town spectacle, you won’t want to miss.
10:00 am to 5:00 pm
Festivities continue until 5:00 pm, with beer and wine available for purchase from street vendors between noon and 3:00 pm.

Murphys’ charming downtown shopping and dining experience will be augmented by vendor booths lining Main Street, featuring hand-crafted wares, original art and photography and freshly prepared food and drinks. Entertainers will be roaming the streets, and a kids’ area on the corner of Main Street and Big Trees Road at the Tourist Information Center will be offering pony rides, live music by the Murphys School of Music, leprechaun-donkeys petting area, a food and snacks station and fun activities for youngsters.
Wine and beer will also be available as usual from Murphys’ downtown wine tasting rooms, pubs, tap rooms and restaurants during their business hours for the day.

Be Kind, Catch a Ride! Attendees are strongly encouraged to use the super convenient free parking and free shuttle service located at Ironstone Vineyards so the limited parking available downtown can be used by participants with disabilities.
Parking downtown for participants with disabilities is accessible off Jones Street behind Alchemy restaurant and at the Masonic Hall.
Did someone say pre-shuttle pot-o-gold selfie?? While you’re arriving or departing on the shuttle, save time to explore Ironstone Vineyards gorgeous grounds, breathtaking tasting room and expansive amenities including a perfect photo op with the gold at the end of the rainbow–the world’s LARGEST crystalline gold nugget located inside the vault at Ironstone Vineyards Heritage Museum. It may not be in a pot, but it will be far, far bigger than your head. Now that’s a GREAT way to commemorate Murphys Irish Day!
