If you’ve ever wanted to get fully immersed in a working farm, Willow Creek Ranch offers just that. John and Cathie Orr invite guests to visit and stay at their smallholding with people-friendly chickens, cows and lots of cats and two dogs, where you can enjoy old-fashioned farm activities. Get your hands dirty, collecting eggs, milking cows and feeding the animals. Learn how to make butter from full cream milk, and help with making homemade meals from scratch.
John and Cathie have a rare ability to make you feel like you’re family the minute you arrive. Everyone eats their delicious, home made meals featuring fresh, natural, wholesome ingredients at the kitchen table. There’s lots of time to meet the animals, and learn about how a farm operates. John will take you out to learn that side of things, while Cathie takes on the cooking and showing you how to make things from the products their animals supply.
This is not a fancy farm. It’s a real, working farm, definitely on the rustic side, because that’s how real farms are. This is an experience that resonates especially with children who have spent their lives in a more urban environment. Here, there’s a stream to play in, Indian Grinding rocks to find, a tire swing to play on, plenty of animals to enjoy and hosts that welcome you as family.
Even if you can’t stay overnight, farm tours are available at 7:00 am and end at 12:00 noon by appointment only.
