Riverside International Wine CompetitionAward winning Twisted Oak Winery wins yet more honors at the 2013 Riverside International Wine Competition. Their 2009 “River of Skulls” won a Gold medal, and also earned Best of Class for a wine based on the Mourvedre grape. The River of Skulls is made from 100% Mourvedre grapes grown at the Dalton Vineyard near Angels Camp in Calaveras County.

Their 2009 “The Spaniard” also won a Gold medal this year. The Spaniard is their signature blend made from Tempranillo, Graciano, and Garnacha grapes grown in their own vineyards at the winery in Vallecito, Calaveras County.

Wine Enthusiast Magazine Top 100One of Calaveras County’s premier wine makers, Twisted Oak was awarded 50 points by Wine Enthusiast Magazine in its Top 100 Wines 2012 list for their 2009 Torcido Garnacha. Here’s what Wine Enthusiast said about the wine:

“What a wine. It tries to intimidate. At first, by its bottle size and alcohol level, but in the glass this 100% Garnacha is like a purring kitten—well a purring 20-pound Maine Coon cat, joyous in its pretty red fruit, and its earthy, meaty, vanilla and cinnamon toast range of goodness. All lush, Twisted Oak’s Torcido is, like a retro soap opera, brave and beautiful.”

Sunset International Wine Competition winnerTwisted Oak also won a silver medal for its 2008 Petite Sirah and a silver medal for its 2009 Syrah in the 2012 Sunset International Wine Competition.
