Established in 1978, Stevenot Winery was at the forefront of the renaissance of premium wine production in Calaveras County, spearheaded by the legendary Barden Stevenot, a 5th generation resident. From Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc to Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Merlot, Barbera, and their newest red sensation, Danza Roja, each taste exemplifies Stevenot’s rich history, excellent foothill climate and impeccable vineyards.
Stevenot’s current winemaker, Nancy Steel, brings decades of outstanding winemaking experience to Stevenot and demonstrates a passion for the her work:
“What I enjoy so much is the combination of art and science that are involved. The chemistry of the conversion of sugar to alcohol and all the subsequent chemical reactions fascinate me. Then there is the art of blending and working with the different vintages and vineyards. Every vineyard and every vintage is unique. It is truly amazing.”
Stevenot is proud to be part of a long and rich tradition of producing world-class wines in the Sierra foothills as it moves into its third decade of producing Sierra Foothill wines of distinction. Visit them in their tasting room in historic downtown Murphys.
