The Gold Rush Writer’s Conference is a weekend long retreat at the lovely Hotel Léger in Mokelumne Hill. Founded in 2005 by a dedicated group of writers who regularly met in Mokelumne Hill, they were all charmed and stimulated by the tiny village said to have once been the “biggest, baddest town” in the Mother Lode. Argonauts had struck pay dirt here and soon it seemed that they had as well. Their generous goal was to share the wealth by bringing together writers and poets for workshops, lectures, panels and readings.
A room at the Hotel LegerThe conference is a non-profit venture, made possible by Poets & Writers, Inc. through a grant received from The James Irvine Foundation and sponsored by the Calaveras County Arts Council. Additional grants come from the Mokelumne Hill Trust, and the Mokelumne Hill Library
Writers on all levels are able to receive insight on their work from established professionals and to choose from a wide variety of excellent workshops to best suit their needs. Opportunities abound for networking and the establishment of working communities with other like-minded artists.
