Nelson’s Candy Kitchen features candies made by five generations of the Nelson family, delighting visitors with the finest handmade candies & confections in the Sierra Foothills. Pure and fresh ingredients are cooked in bright copper kettles and cooled on marble tables that are over 100 years old using recipes dating from the 1800s. This is the kind of candy store that makes you want to linger and try everything, as 80% of what you see is handmade locally.
The Murphys shop is one of three stores. The original is still operating in nearby Columbia State Historic Park and is one of the great attractions of the park. This is where they make their candies before delivering to the Murphys location and where you can watch candy canes being made. Entering their stores is taking a step back in time to the 1800s, and their chocolates, delicious! USA Today called Nelson’s Candy Kitchen as one of the Top Ten Sweet Shops Across America, explaining: “a hallmark of a great old-fashioned candy store … this is the type of place I go way out of my way to visit.”
