Are you curious about bonsai trees? Have you seen them before and wondered how they were miniaturized and living in such small environments? Did you ever want to own one? Well, the Mother Lode Bonsai Club will answer those questions and get you started in the living art of bonsai.
The club will host an open workshop on Saturday, April 4 for the public to meet its members and learn more about this growing hobby. The event will be in the San Andreas Central Library, 1299 Gold Hunter Road (off Mountain Ranch Road) in San Andreas. The monthly meeting starts at 10 a.m., which will be followed by the hands-on workshop where ideas on tree selection, care and maintenance will be available from experienced mentors.
“Come with your questions. Come with your concerns. Come with your ideas. But come!,” said Bev Meyerhoff, club president. “It doesn’t matter if you have any previous experience with bonsai or not. Everyone is welcome.”
If available, bring your own specimen trees including nursery stock. A raffle will be held for bonsai materials and interested parties can also purchase members’ trees for sale there.
The majority of club members come from three local foothill counties (Amador, Calaveras and Tuolumne), as well as the central valley. For more information, contact Bev Meyerhoff at (916) 934-6916 or bevmeyerhoff@gmail.com. You can also send any of your inquiries by email to motherlodebonsaiclub@gmail.com.
