CalaveraCon is Calaveras County’s First Anime Art Show
Highlighted by a Halloween Cosplay Party

San Andreas, Calif. – The Calaveras County Arts Council is leveling up with CalaveraCon, the
first anime, manga, fan art, and cosplay art show in Calaveras County. The exhibit runs October
15 through November 17.
More than a dozen local artists, from middle schoolers to adults, are showcasing work inspired
by the worlds they love. Expect ink illustrations, digital art, watercolors, and handmade
costumes, all celebrating the characters, stories, and styles that make this form of art so
appealing to its fans.
“I want young artists to know that the arts council is for them too. My Gen Z kids grew up in this
world,” said Tricia Slavik, executive director. “CalaveraCon gives young artists a real gallery to
display their work, and gives the whole community a chance to learn about this genre and see
the creativity that usually never leaves a sketchbook or a PC.”

Rather than hosting an opening reception, the arts council is throwing a cosplay-inspired
Halloween party on Saturday, October 31, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the gallery in
downtown San Andreas. Snacks and beverages will be provided. The event is free and open to
all ages. Costumes are encouraged but not required. A professional cosplay makeup artist and
costume designer will be attending the party.
The San Andreas Merchants Association is hosting its annual Haunted House and Halloween
carnival the same evening from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., making downtown San Andreas a festive
and safe spot to spend Halloween.

Featured Artists
Eleanor BonBon is a custom illustrative, minimalist, large-scale body art, as well as
paintings, soft sculptures, prints, stickers, and whimsical thematic series; a professional
painter, tattoo artist, and “art agitator”
Robert Cowell’s work is rooted in pen and ink, built up through cross-hatching and
texture into detailed black-and-white illustrations. The subject matter wanders freely:
gothic atmosphere, fantasy creatures, and folklore.
