Hermitfest on the Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway – September 7, 2024
Music all day long at Hermitfest! Plus vendors, kids activities, guided hikes, late-night jam sessions, and a guided mountain bike ride on Sunday, September 8th. All of it takes place in the Bear Valley Meadow, and 100% of the proceeds benefit the maintenance of the Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway, one of only seven in the country! The Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway invites you to come play on the pass!!
Frogtown Classic BMX Days – September 6-8, 2024
A multi-day, classic, vintage BMX festival that celebrates the history and action of BMX as it had originally developed. The bikes, the legendary racers, and THAT famous United Bicycle Racers (UBR) downhill track that provided so much excitement almost 50 years ago! This three-day event is again held at the beautiful and world-famous Calaveras County Fairgrounds in Angels Camp, home of the Jumping Frog Jubilee. The fairgrounds are located just minutes from the historic downtown where Mark Twain heard the jumping frog story and captured the hearts of generations. So much gold rush history!
Astronomy Night @ Calaveras Big Trees State Park – September 13, 2024
Join the Calaveras Big Trees docents for the one and only telescope night at the park at 8:00 PM on Friday, September 13th. Meet at the Scenic Overlook in the park (get there early as space is limited and fills up fast) with a red light to protect your night vision and warm clothes as the temps are dropping at night in the mountains.
Wild & Scenic Film Festival – September 14, 2024
Wild & Scenic Film Festival – Where Activism Gets Inspired! This all-day (from 12 pm – 8pm) film festival shows local film to international movies about caring for our beautiful world and all the nature within it. “Considered one of the nation’s premier environmental and adventure film festivals, this year’s films combine stellar filmmaking, beautiful cinematography, and first-rate storytelling to inform, inspire and ignite solutions and possibilities to restore the earth and human communities while creating a positive future for the next generation. Festival-goers can expect award-winning films about nature, community activism, adventure, conservation, water, energy and climate change, wildlife, environmental justice, agriculture, etc.” – Wild & Scenic Film Festival
Arnold Rim Trail Sunset Hike – September 14, 2024
Watch the sunset from the top of Cougar Rock on this intermediate hike led by members of the Arnold Rim Trail Association. Distance is about 4 miles total, with 730 feet of elevation gain. If you haven’t done one of these hikes, you owe it to yourself to join the fun. This is an intermediate level four mile hike with 730 feet of elevation gain, the equivalent of a seventy-three story building, so be sure to assess your level of conditioning. Bring a headlamp or flashlight, bug repellent, a snack, water, and layers. No sign-up needed, hike proceeds even if cloudy, but rain cancels. Be sure to get to the parking lot at 5:15 pm as the hike will start promptly at 5:25 pm.
Concours D’Elegance @ Ironstone Vineyards – September 28, 2024
Antique and classic cars shown each September at the Ironstone Vineyards’ Concours d’Elegance featuring over 300 cars, vintage trailers, housecars, antique trucks and motorcycles, race cars, and wooden boats. Vehicles marques from past years include names such as Packard, Duesenberg, Pierce-Arrow, BMW, Corvette, Studebaker, Bentley, and Rolls-Royce.
Friday evening kicks off this three-day event with the Cars & Star wine tasting, dinner, and auction to benefit Central and Northern California youth in agriculture, notably Future Farmers of America and 4-H as well as local high school scholarships. The concours itself takes place on Saturday showcasing all the classic vehicles and guest speakers from throughout the classic car industry. Regular participating auto industry experts hail from Reno’s National Auto Museum, the California Automotive Museum in Sacramento, the Blackhawk Museum in Dublin, and San Francisco’s Academy of Art University auto collection.
Blues & Bones Festival – September 28, 2024
The Blues and Bones Festival recipe: Combine the evocative sound of Blues music, stir in a little barbeque and add your family for a fun summer event everyone will enjoy. This annual event promises award-winning, slow-cooked barbecue for the truly discerning palate, and a fabulous lineup of national and local Blues artists over two days.
It takes place at the beautiful Calaveras County Fairgrounds in Angels Camp, where you can lounge on the grass under the trees and watch the kids do cartwheels. There’s a Kid’s Area with activities scheduled throughout both days, a BBQ contest – you decide the winners, and wait. Is there beer? Oh yes, there’s beer too. It’s an idyllic setting with the perfect combination of sounds and flavor. You might want to make it your annual family festival.
Oktoberfest @ Murphys Park – September 28, 2024
Set in the idyllic Murphys Community Park, Oktoberfest here includes German beer on tap, Lockeford sausages, Oompa-style music, and a corn hole tournament. Grab your lederhosen and accordion, and let’s get to Schuhplattlering!!
Music in the Park in Mokelumne Hill – September 7, 14, 21, & 28, 2024
Every Saturday, catch free live music in Shutter Tree Park from 6:00 – 8:00 pm organized by the Mokelumne Hill Community Historical Trust. Donations are welcome to support this music series and summer art camp in Moke Hill. Bring a picnic and welcome in fall in Moke Hill!!
