September: Get Outside

Pack the car with your outdoor gear of choice–whether golfing, camping, backpacking, swimming, climbing, kayaking, fishing, stand-up paddle boarding or more–September is the perfect time of year for finding the sweet spot between warm temperatures for swimming and cooler climes for even late afternoon hiking. Looking to cast a line? Explore our guide to epic lakes and swimming holes in Calaveras County here. Playing in the High Sierra? Add in a day of FREE music and dancing with Hermitfest, September 10 in Hermit Valley along the Ebbetts Pass Scenic Byway. This annual event is a celebration of the Scenic Byway and features popular local acts like Grover Anderson and The Hot Dark. Forest Service campsites are available on a first come basis.

Prefer to sleep and cook indoors while you play outside all day? Check out the rental condos and cabins from Bear Valley Real Estate. From your basecamp in Arnold or Bear Valley you can explore everything Ebbetts Pass has to offer. Rent bikes, paddleboards and kayaks from Bear Valley Adventure Company in Bear Valley, or SNAC in Arnold for SUPs, kayaks, gear, apparel and guides to the area.
