Wine Tasting

Wine tasting is a perfect, laid-back, stress-free experience in Calaveras County. We have winery tasting rooms dotted all around the county. Three historic downtowns, Murphys and Mokelumne Hill offer Calaveras wine tasting rooms on their charming Gold Rush era Main Streets, and Copperopolis has tasting rooms in their picturesque town square.

For vineyard tasting rooms, you’ll want to check out the Vallecito area between Angels Camp and Murphys, or get the full list of all of the wineries and tasting rooms in Calaveras County. Of course, our best known vineyard which also features a museum, jewelry gift shop, deli, beautifully manicured grounds and amphitheater, is Ironstone Vineyards in Murphys.

For wine tasting in Calaveras without the worry of driving, you can arrange a vineyard tour with Gold Rush Tour Co. or Courtwood Wine Tasting Tours, or transportation with Stagecoach Limousine. Wines in Calaveras are generally made from estate-grown grapes, and hand-crafted in small batches. Our winemakers pride themselves on their attention to detail throughout the entire process, and the result? Seriously good wines. But we don’t take ourselves too seriously as you can see in this video featuring some of our top wineries and winemakers, and produced by the Calaveras Winegrape Alliance:

Come visit our friendly, welcoming wineries and enjoy the laid-back, Sierra Foothills vibe while you sip your perfect varietal. We’re here to help you discover some new favorites.

Here’s what Forbes said about Calaveras wines in 2016: Calaveras: The new pulse of California wine country. Here’s what the LA Times had to say about wine tasting in Murphys in 2017: Is Murphys, a village in the Sierra foothills, the new Napa?. And one of the distinctions we like to draw between Sierra Foothills wineries and other wine regions, is that here, your wine tasting getaway can include incredible outdoor recreation.
